Reverend Jon is the latest musical incarnation of multi-instrumentalist and producer Jon Margulies, whose sound resonates with fans of Tame Impala, The Cure, LCD Soundsystem, Bombay Bicycle Club, Tears For Fears and Peter Gabriel.
With a career that spans punk rock at CBGB, jazz at The Village Gate, medieval music at the Spoleto Festival, and a DJ set at Coachella, Margulies brings an eclectic musical pedigree to Reverend Jon. He’s also known as the producer behind Hobotech, where roots Americana meets bass-heavy beats, and is the founder and lead engineer of Old School Studios in Jerome, AZ.
Reverend Jon channels the emotion of New Wave and ‘80s synth-pop layered with the influence of minimalists like Steve Reich and Laurie Anderson. His live performances are built around real-time looping—melding soaring melodies, textured soundscapes and poetic, often wry lyricism into an immersive experience.
The addition of drummer Lou Moretti to the live show has expanded the project’s dynamic range, blending funky, propulsive jams with expansive dream-pop atmospheres. Whether in the studio or onstage, Reverend Jon crafts a sound that’s both genre-defying and deeply personal.
