Merican’ Slang
Mar 15 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

“Something about brass and woodwind instruments that makes every Merican Slang show seem like a backstage pass to Jazz Fest in New Orleans. “Shake your ass” music does the band justice.” – Hakim Bellamy, Local IQ, “Albuquerque’s Intelligent Alternative”

Established 4/20/2011
A funk band- Super Group, Merican Slang began as a side project of members of several Albuquerque acts who came together to form a band with a truly Merican, Democratic, approach to music making. The result is a unique sound that blends Merican Funk, with Merican Southern Rock! Merican Slang has shared the stage with artists Cody ChessnuTT (The Roots), Richard Howell (Carlos Santana), and Frank Hannon (Tesla).

Jennifer Westwood & the Handsome Devils (DUO)
May 31 @ 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm

Jennifer Westwood and the handsome devils

“Jennifer Westwood and the Handsome Devils sound like they made a serendipitous wrong turn on their way to the juke joint and wound up in a countrypolitan cathedral instead. It’s beautiful and ever so haunting. Westwood’s voice is sexy and strong as it applies the seduction over the band’s groove and thoughtful reserve…..And the Handsome Devils lay it down as pretty as their golden haired captain. It’s honky-tonk with a little less honky. It’s atmospheric yet immediate and approachable. It packs a wallop” – Rochester City Newspaper

At the heart of the band is Jennifer Westwood and guitarist Dylan Dunbar, who share an affection for gospel, Texas blues, Stax, and Muscle Shoals era artists. Jennifer cut her teeth on gospel in Detroit before hitting the gritty local bars that set her career in motion; along the way performing back up for acts including Motown’s Carl Carlton, adding several Detroit Music Awards to her credit, including one for work with Sponge (Sony) frontman Vin Dombroski on a traditional country recording (Lalar V).

Dylan Dunbar spent his teen years refining his chops in local blues joints, moving on to perform with W.C. Handy award winners such as Chef Chris and Johnny “Yard Dog” Jones, as well as country artist Whitey Morgan. His dynamic playing style is a compliment to Jennifer’s broad vocal range and unique sound that invokes influences ranging from Linda Ronstadt to Big Mama Thorton.

The last couple years have seen them performing across the country rather than at home in the rustbelt, growing a family of fans from New York to Texas. They’ve been on bills with acts such as Hayes Carll, Paul Thorn, Dale Watson, Delbert McClinton, and have performed alongside Patti Smith (with her bandmates backing Smith as well); grateful for every opportunity the road has afforded them.

Fully embracing the character and spirit of Detroit, they consider it an honor to represent a talent filled city of rugged determination, faith and hard working people.

::: Gold Shimmer :::
Aug 9 @ 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm

Gold Shimmer is an independent LA based electro-soul band.  It is a surrealist collaboration led by songwriter Jeff Venter on vocals alongside Artyone Turner on synth and Mitchell Manburg on lead guitar.  Influenced by The Doors, the Gorillaz, and Earth, Wind, and Fire they can  groove, get weird, and vibe out.  Driven by a curiosity of music’s limitations, nontraditional narrative, and theatrics the trio aims to take their audience for a ride through another time and dimension.

The group began playing together in Spring 2017 as part a different band. After some time collaborating and performing together, Venter, Manburg, and Turner had a greater vision and reformed as “Gold Shimmer” the following year.

“We created a full back story with personas for ourselves. We thought long and hard about who we wanted to be on stage and put clear intention into every show, every song, every note. We wanted our art to extend beyond music,” remarks Manburg (of the reformation).

Their debut EP, “The Temple of Solace Pt. 1”, took launch in September of that year and the band found themselves playing notable LA venues such as The Satellite, The Peppermint Club, Silverlake Lounge, Federal Bar, upon many others. Currently, the band is busy performing regionally promoting their single and video, “Night Heat”, released 2019.
