Jeremiah & the red eyes

Jeremiah and the Red Eyes – www.jeremiahandtheredeyes.com

Jeremiah Sammartano, the Los Angeles based, Emmy nominated Native American singer/songwriter who fronts the bluesy/Americana group, Jeremiah and the Red Eyes, has covered many miles over the past several years – taking the various roads spreading music influenced by the raw blues of Charley Patton, the lyrical and often raucous sounds of The Pogues, the twang of Willie Nelson, and some vintage rock and roll – “Delta Blues and Twangy Grooves” – from Los Angeles outward through the Southwest, Austin, St. Louis, Nashville (where he relocated for a spell in 2008-2009), Chicago – and overseas to the UK.

In the past Jeremiah has shared the stage with Willie Nelson, Southern Culture On The Skids, David Olney, Mike Stinson, SHURMAN and has performed on the radio shows: WDVX Blue Plate Special out of Knoxville, TN., The Live@Lunch show on KRFC out of Fort Collins, CO., and Chris Morris’ Watusi Rodeo show out of Los Angeles.

In Spring 2011 Jeremiah received an Emmy nomination for writing music for the documentary, Prison Through Tomorrow’s Eyes. Three albums have been released – 2004’s Red Eyed And Restless and 2010’s Under Your Spell and in December 2012, a 10 song album called HOME – which was followed, in 2013, by local shows and a Southwest tour with friend Mikaela Dewar, from New Zealand currently living in Nashville, and shows across the Midwest and South. Plans for a Fall/Winter tour is in the works – and also to return to the UK.

Cadillac Angels

Growing up with no computer, cell phone, Ipod or even a television, is just not that common anymore, anywhere, but for Tony Balbinot, bandleader and singer/songwriter, guitarist for the Cadillac Angels, that’s exactly how it was. Born in a small, rural farm town in Illinois, in a house without even a television, only a radio and an old record player, Tony’s connection to the big music world was limited to WLS Radio out of Chicago and used 45 rpm records from a jukebox in a diner where his single mother was a waitress.  Musical influences varied widely from Johnny Horton to Jimmy Reed, and when his small family packed up and moved to California the spectrum widened and bloomed.  With Tony’s growing interest in electric guitar, Link Wray, Dick Dale, BB King, and John Fogerty began to heat up his second hand stereo and his fingers.

Midwestern roots combined with a western migration spawned the guitar driven  musical and songwriting style that makes the Cadillac Angels music so special. Now, with over a million miles of touring, and over ten full length original CDs, the band has toured most of the USA and over seven countries in Great Britain and Western Europe. Their first recordings won them “Best Roots Demo” at Austin’s prestigious South by Southwest Music Conference, and their songs have been featured in major full length films as well as commercials.

The Gretsch Guitar Company recognized Tony’s talents and awarded him an artists endorsement. He was invited to perform at Gretsch’s 125th year anniversary celebration, where he shared the stage with legends, Dick Dale, Billy Gibbons, and Jimmie Vaughn.  Tony’s picture now hangs in the Gretsch Hall of Fame in Scottsdale, AZ right between Chet Atkins and Brian Jones. Not bad for a country boy from Illinois!

The Cadillac Angels have never caved to musical fads or commercial pressure. They have elected to remain a trio, feeling that the honest sound of one electric guitar, bass and basic drums best suits the integrity of their style…a style born out of the American heartland, traveling the world, yet still their music rings true Rock and Roll…American music.

Merican’ Slang
Aug 31 @ 9:00 pm – Sep 1 @ 12:00 am

“Something about brass and woodwind instruments that makes every Merican Slang show seem like a backstage pass to Jazz Fest in New Orleans. “Shake your ass” music does the band justice.” – Hakim Bellamy, Local IQ, “Albuquerque’s Intelligent Alternative”

Established 4/20/2011

A funk band- Super Group, Merican Slang began as a side project of members of several Albuquerque acts who came together to form a band with a truly Merican, Democratic, approach to music making. The result is a unique sound that blends Merican Funk, with Merican Southern Rock! Merican Slang has shared the stage with artists Cody ChessnuTT (The Roots), Richard Howell (Carlos Santana), and Frank Hannon (Tesla).

Well Dressed Wolves
Sep 8 @ 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm

well dressed wolves band photoThe WDW are rock group, based out of Phoenix, AZ. Originally formed in 2004, the band consists of Travis Eaton (guitar, vocals), Louis Occhiline (bass, vocals), & Gabe Rhodes (drums, vocals).

Travis Eaton, Guitarist and vocalist, began playing music around the age of four. Originally inspired by country music, he was exposed to rock ‘n’ roll after seeing a clip of the Beatles performing “All My Loving” on the Ed Sullivan Show. When he was ten, as a tribute to the Beatles, he began performing in a band called the Moptops as well as playing classical guitar in competition for the Verde Valley Music Association. Later he found himself playing with the band Recall alongside future band member Gabriel Rhodes.

Gabriel Rhodes has been playing drums for approximately 21 years. He is the son of Arizona Blues Hall of Famer Danny Rhodes. At age 11, along with playing drums for his father, he has been part of bands Recall, Heavy Soul, and Denarius. In 2004, after having exhausted all other musical ventures, Eaton and Rhodes began playing with a friend of Eaton, Louis Occhiline.

Louis Occhiline was born into a large musical family. He started playing the bass at seventeen. There had been a shortage of bassists, so he learned the basics of the instrument. He played with Eaton in a band called Frequency Response. The band split in early 2004. Over the past few years, Occhiline has developed his music by trying to apply the bass styles of John Entwistle of The Who and Paul McCartney to his own.

They began playing in Rhodes’ garage in the summer of 2004. They quickly found a chemistry that had been lacking in their previous bands. They were united by the influences of ’60s rock as well as the ’90s alternative.

Stephen Ashbrook

Please join us for a night of music with Stephen Ashbrook! As a precursor to Saturday nights full band event, enjoy Stephen Ashbrook Unplugged Friday Sep 20th 8-11PM. A local favorite! Arrive early we are always packed when Stephen visits!

West Coast singer/songwriter Stephen Ashbrook had access to only two records growing up (Simon & Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water and Jesus Christ Superstar), both of which were enticing enough to send the California native on a hunt to his local library to expand his musical horizons.

Citing heroes as diverse as John Steinbeck, the Rolling Stones, and Winston Churchill, Ashbrook honed his chops amidst the fertile late-’90s Tempe, Arizona alt-rock scene, where he took home The Phoenix Tribune’s Best Acoustic Performer title in both 1998 and 2000; he even got to play for President William Jefferson Clinton, at the request of the White House.

Known for his rich baritone, smooth falsetto, and penchant for open-road heartland folk-rock in the vein of Tom Petty, the Wallflowers, and Joe Henry, he released an EP, About Last Night, in 1993, followed by a full-length eponymous studio album with his band Satellite in 1995.

His solo debut, the critically acclaimed Navigator, arrived in 1998, with Drive and American B-Sides, the latter of which featured members of the Gin Blossoms, the Pistoleros, and Dead Hot Workshop, arriving in 2001 and 2002, respectively.

Ashbrook relocated to Portland, Oregon after the arrival of the latter, releasing his first live collection, Double Live @ Long Wong’s, in 2004, and White Balloons, his sixth studio album, in 2008.
